How to Make Stuffed Bunnies

Stuffed animals are fun to play with and can add a nice touch to home décor. However, purchasing pre-made animals can be expensive. Plus, you may have trouble finding the animal you are looking for. If you are looking for a stuffed bunny, you can easily make your own at home. Since you are making it yourself you can control the shape of the bunny as well as the colors and materials that are used to make a truly one-of-a-kind stuffed animal.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the silhouette of a bunny on an 8-by-10-inch piece of paper. Make sure you use up as much of the paper as possible. Cut the bunny out using scissors. This will be your pattern.

    • 2

Pin your pattern to a piece of fleece, in the color of your choosing, using straight pins. Use fabric scissors to cut the fleece. Remove the straight pins and the pattern. Repeat this step a second time on a second piece of fleece.

    • 3

Use a needle with black thread to sew an X on each piece of fabric for the bunny's eyes. Place the two pieces of fleece together with the right sides facing each other and pin them together.

    • 4

Use a sewing machine to sew the two pieces of fleece together. Choose a thread that is as close to possible as the color of your fleece. Leave a one inch opening along the bunny's back. Remove the straight pins and use the hole to turn the bunny right side out.

    • 5

Use your finger to press cotton batting into the bunny, making sure to get it into the ears as well. Use as much cotton batting as you need to get the consistency you are looking for. It should be firm but not hard.

    • 6

Fold the edges of the fleece inward and hand stitch a slip stitch to close the bunny.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you prefer, you can use buttons as eyes, instead of Xs.

  • If you are making this bunny for a baby, place a bell inside before preforming the slipstich. Or you could place the plastic packaging from a pack of baby wipes inside. This will give the bunny a crinkling sound when the baby plays with it.
