How to Get Rid of Ants with Homemade Pesticides
Commercially available pesticides use toxins to kill ants and other pests. These toxins are harmful to humans and pets, and are dangerous to people with underlying medical conditions like asthma. The poisons, propellants, and their containers also harm the environment. Using a few household products, a homeowner can mix up eco-friendly, non-toxic homemade pesticides to help get rid of ants. Does this Spark an idea?

1
For ants that are outside the home, mix up a dry mix of one part confectioner's sugar to one part boric acid powder. Sprinkle the powder mixture around the perimeter of ant mounds, or where ever you happen to see ant activity. The ants will pick up grains of the mixture and carry it back to the center of the ant hill, to poison the other inhabitants of the ant hill.

Create a less-messy version for use inside the home. Make a paste-form pesticide by mixing up the 1:1 powder mixture, then adding small amounts of peanut butter and/or honey to make a thick paste. The paste should have the consistency of very thick cookie dough. Form grape-sized balls of the mixture to be used as ant pesticide.

Place the homemade pesticide balls and powders out of the reach of children. Boric acid is generally considered about as toxic as common table salt, but it can be dangerous if consumed in large quantities.
