How to Get Your Driver License and License Plate in Texas

Getting a driver license in Texas is not easy. Being armed with the following information should make the process easier.

Things You'll Need

• Registration of car
• Social Security Card
• Original Birth Certificate, no copies are accepted
• Out of State Driver License
• Proof of Insurance

Instructions

1. You must have your car inspected before getting your driver license. You will have to go to a Texas Car Inspection Location. The cost usually runs between $40 - $50. You will be given a white sheet sometimes referred to the "green sheet". Take it to the local Tax Assessor Office.

2. When you get to the local Tax Assessors location, you will need the title of the car (the registration of the car) You will pay taxes based on the cost of the car. There is also a one time fee of $90 fee to transfer the car.

3. Then proceed to the nearest Texas Department of Highway Safety Office to get your driver license (the website link is below for more information), take the above items listed in the "what you will need box above". After all of the above steps are completed you will finally be granted a Texas Driver License.
