How to Insert Quotation Marks in WordPerfect

You'll be able to insert and format quotation marks in WordPerfect more effectively if you know a few tips and tricks.

Inserting Quotes in WordPerfect

To insert a double quotation mark, hold the "shift" key and press the quotation mark key on your keyboard. This will add a curly double quotation mark to your WordPerfect document that curls toward your text.

To insert a single quotation mark, press the quotation mark key on your keyboard. This will add a curly single quotation mark to your WordPerfect document that curls towards your text.

To insert a single quotation mark after a number to indicate measurement, press the quotation mark key on your keyboard after a number. This will add a straight single quotation mark to your WordPerfect document that does not curl towards your text.
Formatting Quotes in WordPerfect

If you prefer WordPerfect to insert straight quotes instead of quotes that curl toward your text, you can change the default settings by using "SmartQuotes." Access this feature by clicking on "Tools" on the navigation bar and then selecting "QuickCorrect" from the dropdown menu.

From the "QuickCorrect" screen, select the "SmartQuotes" tab.

The default setting for double quotation marks is curly. To make curly double quotation marks straight, choose the straight double quotation mark from the "Open" and "Close" dropdown menu located to the right of "Use double quotation marks as you type."

The default setting for single quotation marks is curly. To make curly single quotation marks straight, choose the straight quotation mark from the "Open" and "Close" dropdown menu located to the right of "Use single quotation marks as you type."

Once you are satisfied with your preferences, click the "OK" box to save your settings. Your quotes should now be automatically formatted according to your preferences.

Tips & Warnings
To change the default formatting of the quotes, access the "SmartQuotes" feature and change the settings to your desired preferences. Not that this will not alter the format of any previous quotes you have inserted into your WordPerfect document.
To change the straight single quotation mark to a curly single quotation mark after a number measurement, go to the "SmartQuotes" tab and uncheck the box to the left of "Use straight quotation marks after numbers - 6'."
For curly quotation marks to appear normally, you must have curly quotations selected from the "Open" and "Close" dropdown menu located to the right of "Use single quotation marks as you type."
