How to Write a Model Resume

All professional resumes share certain characteristics, but a modeling resume must emphasize certain elements specific to the profession. While the format of a model's resume should follow the general standards of professional resumes, it is beneficial that the actual information contained in the resume be broken down into separate categories, with each category corresponding to a specific kind of experience (since models can have a wide such array of work experience). A modeling resume can still take different forms, but these general rules will help a model create a solid resume.

Instructions

  1. Basic Format

    • 1

Use a single sheet of high-quality bond paper, preferably in a neutral tone such as white, off-white or beige. Although white or off-white is the standard color for resume paper, using a little color in an modeling resume is okay. Just keep it a soft color.

    • 2

Choose a standard-size professional font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, in 10- or 11-point size.

    • 3

Use bullets, section headings or related indicators to help readers easily focus on specific elements of your resume. Always leave at least a 1-inch margin on all sides.

    Information

    • 4

Include standard information in the heading of your modeling resume, such as name and contact information. Also include a profile of your physical characteristics like age, height and weight. You should add a photograph of yourself to the upper corner of the resume or attach it to the resume itself.

    • 5

Give a brief career overview, which should mention your total years in the modeling profession.

    • 6

Create a major heading called Professional Experience, and divide up and form subheadings based on your modeling experience. For example, you may have sections titled Magazines, Commercials and Runway or Store Modeling. Include any film experience you may have. Under each, provide details of each job and start each section with the most recent job and work backward.

    • 7

Include a section that highlights special talents, such as music, acting or dance proficiencies.

    • 8

Add a final statement that you have references and a portfolio available upon request.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you make the cut you should have a full portfolio that is ready to show, but at the resume stage, you want to at least have a quality image that a potential employer can see.
