How to Extract Goji Berries

Used in many Eastern medicines, goji berries are known for being packed full of vitamins and nutrients. The nutrients in goji berries include iron, potassium, calcium, beta-carotene, zinc, B complex vitamins, and vitamin C. Drinks extracted from goji berry juice provide antioxidants, boost the immune system, and can help to treat diabetes. Goji berries are small, delicate berries and it takes a large amount to make a significant amount of juice. However, the juice that is extracted can be used as a supplement or additive in other juices or in tea.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse and clean the goji berries thoroughly. Pick out any stems, leaves or rotten berries.

    • 2

Place the berries in a saucepan and fill it with water so the water covers all of the berries. Use equal parts of berries and water. Heat the berries for about 10 minutes on medium-low heat until they are soft. Do not boil the water as high temperatures can deplete some of the water soluble vitamins in the berries.

    • 3

Place the berries in a blender. Blend the berries until you have a semi-coarse but consistent puree.

    • 4

Place a strainer bag over a container for collecting the juice. Pour the puree into the strainer bag and let excess juice drip into the container. Leave the puree to drip until it is cool enough to touch. Cinch the bag and squeeze down on it to press out and extract all remaining juice.

    • 5

Store the extracted goji berry juice in a sealed container in the fridge, or freeze it in ice cube trays.
