How to Cure Feet Fungus

Foot fungus is most commonly caused by a bacterial buildup due to poor hygiene. Fungus that grows on the feet often causes a strong, undesirable odor. Apart from unpleasant odors, foot fungus can also cause itching and peeling. If left untreated, it can spread and increase in severity. Fortunately, there are several ways to cure foot fungus. The most effective foot fungus treatments will kill it and restore your feet to a healthy state.

  • Over the counter cream
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Anti-bacterial soap
  • Tea tree oil
  • Go to your local drugstore and see what over-the-counter treatments are available for eliminating foot fungus. Some of the most effective and widely used treatments are Tinactin, Lamisil and Lotrimin. The most common active ingredient in foot fungus creams is terbinafin hydrochloride or clotrimazole, which are highly effective anti-fungals. Apply the treatment daily as directed on the package.

  • Prepare a foot bath by mixing two cups of apple cider vinegar and one-half a cup of baking soda in two gallons of warm water. Throughly stir the foot bath until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Place your feet in the water and soak them for 10 to 20 minutes. Repeat daily for the best results. The vinegar and baking soda have natural anti-fungal properties that kill the bacteria that cause fungus to grow.

  • Scrub your feet with an antibacterial soap daily. Since skin conditions such as foot fungus and athlete's foot are caused by a bacterial buildup, you should do all you can to eliminate any bacteria on your feet. Disinfectants and antibacterial soap are highly effective in killing the bacteria that causes foot fungus to grow. Consider purchasing a specially designed athlete's foot soap, such as Gym Soap.

  • Pick up a bottle of tea tree oil at your local health food or vitamin store. This oil is a natural approach to killing bacteria and curing foot fungus. Before applying, thoroughly wash your feet with an anti-bacterial soap. Apply three to four drops of the oil on the affected area and gently rub it into your skin. Apply daily until the fungus goes away.

  • Change your socks regularly to prevent the fungus from worsening. Wearing fresh socks, especially after exercise, will lower the amount of bacteria that comes into contact with the fungus. Applying a medicated spray or powder such as Tinactin before putting on a fresh pair of socks will further minimize the amount of bacteria on your feet.
