How to Install Memory in an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac

RAM (Random Access Memory) is a temporary storage device that the computer uses to run the operating system and any applications you use. The more memory a user's computer has, the easier it is to run online applications, play games, and to multi-task. Installing memory into the computer is the easiest upgrade a user can perform, and it is definitely the most inexpensive performance upgrade you can purchase.

Shut down the iMac and disconnect all the cables. Place a towel on the surface and lay the computer face-down to prevent scratching of the monitor surface.

Raise the monitor stand up and away from the surface to give you access to the memory access door.

    • 3

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the single screw holding the memory access door, and remove the memory access door.

Add the new DIMM module. Press the new DIMM module into the memory bay firmly until you hear a click. The memory module will only fit in the memory bay one way. Note: The front notch should be on the leftmost side of the chip when installing.
