How to Get Dresses for a High School Fashion Show
Most high school fashion shows operate on a limited budget, so that finding no-cost or low-cost dresses for the event is a must. Getting dresses for a high school fashion show requires persistence and a willingness to be creative and bold about asking for assistance.

1
Require each participant in the fashion show to provide at least one dress for the event--whether for herself or for another participant. Collaborate with the home economics teacher to see if sewing dresses for the fashion show could be one of the semester's projects, or with the school administrators to see if an after-school sewing course or club could be formed to allow students to make their own dresses.

2
Utilize school and district resources by borrowing suitable dresses from drama/theater departments at your own school or other schools within the same district or county. If there is a community college or university in your area, ask if it would be willing to let you borrow dresses from its drama/theater departments as well.

3
Ask parent organizations or parents to sew a dress for the event. Ask whether parents have relatives, neighbors, or friends who would be interested in volunteering their sewing skills. Alternatively, ask students, parents, teachers, and community members if they have any dresses they'd be willing to donate.
-
4
Shop local thrift stores--many unique formal dresses can be found at very affordable prices, and if you or your volunteers can modify the dresses, that's even better. You may also be able to find discounted fabrics to use in making your own dresses.
-
5
Ask local bridal shops or fashion and vintage boutiques to act as sponsors and allow you to either borrow or rent the dresses for the event in exchange for free advertising in event fliers and on event posters. If your high school is in or near a bigger city, contact local dress manufacturers to see if they would allow you to borrow dresses for your fashion show, or if they would be willing to give you irregulars or pattern dresses from previous seasons. Additionally, sometimes local companies are willing to subsidize these kind of events, especially if the fashion show has a socially important theme--such as if the dresses are green or manufactured in an eco-friendly manner.
Get everything in writing, however, including a detailed inventory of what dresses are used, and make one person in charge of overseeing this project to ensure the dresses are properly cared for and returned in excellent condition.
