How to Convert Windows Media Files to Quick Time

WMV is the format Windows Media Player uses for video. To play a WMV file in a standard format for a video player such as Quicktime, you must convert your Windows Media file to the MOV video format.

Instructions

1. Download and install a free video converter program such as Xilisoft or Format Factory to convert one format to the other. Click the download link and following the installation prompts.

2. Click "Add File" button on the upper left of the converter program screen. Double-click on your WMV file in the browse window that appears.

3. Click the "Profiles" menu at the bottom of the program screen. Click the General Video heading on the left. Options will appear on the right. Click "Quicktime: MOV."

4. Click "Convert" button to begin the conversion.

Tips & Warnings

• Some freeware programs such as Xilisoft will convert only a certain number of files before prompting you to buy the full version.
