How to Boot From a Floppy Disk in Windows XP
Windows XP can be started using a bootable floppy disk when normal startup fails. You can then run system recovery tools to fix the system. Once the floppy disk is inserted, a command prompt will be displayed on system startup where you can access the files stored on the hard disk by means of DOS commands. Insert the Windows XP bootable floppy disk in the floppy drive of your computer and then restart your computer.

Press "F8"once or twice immediately after your computer restarts, until you see the "Select the device to boot from" menu.

Select the "Floppy Disk" option by using the arrow key and then press "Enter." This will start your system using the bootable floppy disk. Once ready, you will see the command prompt (A:\>) where you will have to type a DOS command to operate the system.

Tips & Warnings
Do not remove the floppy disk from the floppy drive until you are done.
