How to Tell an Original Dooney & Bourke Purse

It's hard to find out if your purse is a knockoff, but if you are interesting in investing about $1,000 dollars, you should know what to look for to avoid buying a knockoff.

1. Look at the thread. On the logo, on the front of the bag, you need to make sure that the threading on the logo is the same color as the threading on the rest of the bag. The easiest way to spot a fake is to see that the threading is a different stitching or color.

2. Check the trim. The second-easiest way to spot a fake Dooney & Bourke purse is that the bag's leather trim will not be a British tan leather trim. Usually, the fakes have a different color other than tan, such as white, brown or black.

3. Check the front. The hardware, the Dooney & Bourke emblem on the front of the bag, should be brass and nothing else. Usually the hardware on fake bags is a silver color.

4. Check the inside of the bag. If it's a real Dooney & Bourke purse, there will be a visible red, blue and white registration number sewn into the bag.
