Instructions

    • 1

Choose a four- to six-inch craft foam ball for your rose tree. If using fresh roses, you will want to use a floral foam ball that you should soak in water first before inserting the roses. If using silk roses, a regular craft foam ball will work fine.

    • 2

Find a six-inch clay flower pot. The pot can be smaller or a little larger depending on the size of the ball you are using; keep the pot and the ball in proportion to each other. For instance, do not use a pot that is smaller than the ball or it will look out of balance, and do not use a ball that is too small compared to the pot, or the tree will look skimpy. Spray paint the flower pot to match the colors of the flowers or in a coordinating shade of color. Let dry completely.

    • 3

Insert floral foam into the flower pot making sure it fits snugly and will not move. Insert a 10-inch wooden dowel into the center of the floral foam in the pot. (Any length can be used depending on the size of the foam ball and how tall you want the tree to be.) Center the foam ball over the top end of the dowel and gently push the ball onto the dowel, being careful not to push the dowel through the top of the ball.

Cut the rose stems to about two-inches long. If using fresh roses cut the stems at an angle, which allows the flowers to soak up more water, keeping them fresh longer. Insert the flowers into the ball covering it completely. Cut four 8 to 10-inch pieces of 1/4-inch wide ribbon. Hold the four pieces of ribbon together and tie around the wooden dowel below the ball; tie into a knot to secure. If desired, the loose ends of the ribbon can be tied together to form a bow or just curl each of the loose ends of the ribbon.

    • 5

Lay Spanish moss over the top of the flower pot to cover the floral clay. Use a lot of moss, fluffing it up, and if desired, you can add in some greenery or lay a few roses over the moss.
