Large pores can make even healthy, clear skin look unattractive, giving the appearance that your face is dirty or blemished. Your skin will always have pores, and there is no way to get rid of them or make them shrink permanently. With proper skin care to make pores appear smaller, your skin will have more of the smooth, healthy look you want. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cleanse the skin thoroughly using a product containing retinol or vitamin C. The cleanser should be gentle to avoid irritating the skin, and used at least twice a day to keep the face as free of oil as possible. By keeping skin clean, pores won't become clogged and enlarged as easily.
-
2
Exfoliate the skin. Microdermabrasion treatments are a good way to remove dead skin cells. Many dermatologists offer microdermabrasion treatments, but there are also several systems you can purchase to perform the procedure at home. The exfoliation process gently scrubs dead skin from the face, which minimizes the appearance of pores. Microdermabrasion should not be done every day, but by exfoliating regularly you will keep skin healthy and reduce the appearance of large pores.

Apply make-up to minimize the appearance of pores on the skin. Good cosmetics can go a long way toward reducing the look of pores on the face. Use a skin primer to keep foundation from sinking into pores, and apply water-based foundation to avoid doing damage to the skin.

4
Use pore-minimizing lotion regularly. Clinique, Neutrogena, and other cosmetics companies feature lotions that help soften and shrink pores, making your face appear smoother. Neutrogena's Pore Refining Cream and Avon's Anew Advanced All-In-One Self-Adjusting Perfecting Lotion are two examples of pore-minimizing topical treatments you can apply regularly to improve the look of your face. Topical retinol creams that can be purchased over the counter, such as Retin A, increase the skin's creation of collagen to achieve a tighter, smoother look.

5
Perform this maintenance regularly. Only by keeping the skin properly clean will you make your pores appear smaller and achieve a smoother look.

An added point, larger pores are often a result of oily skin, a skin type that enjoys longer collagen benefits and delayed wrinkle appearance. Case in point: Aware of those pesky stretch marks during pregnancy? That's due to less of a collagen supply than that of a woman who enjoys more collagen in her system, producing fewer or no stretch marks. A well-balanced diet and lots of exercise with proper hydration are key elements, not only to reducing the appearance of larger pores, but in maintaining that rejuvinated, youthful appearance. -

Next, a costly visit to the makeup sales counter at the department store and the drug store in an effort to create an illusion is counterproductive to pore reduction. Further, Retin A does little to replenish collagen. Due to the physiological aging process, we will slow down collagen production, rendering a loss in our reserves over time. Collagen = young, supple skin. Lack thereof = wrinkles. -

Although, I agree with the posit that pores *due to the natural aging process coupled with photo-aging* increase over time, I do not, however, agree with the posit that pores will be effectively reduced in size with the makeup list that's been presented here on this page. Foundation, as a start, whether matte or sheen finish, will prompt pores to appear larger, providing dimension -- an illusion, if you will -- that illustrates much larger pores than their actual size. It is one of the golden rules to steering clear of foundation, altogether.
