How to Watch Movies on an Acer Aspire One

Save

Netbooks are a popular item in 2010. Their small size and good battery life make them incredibly useful and portable. Like other netbooks, the Acer Aspire One is missing a component that is standard on laptops and desktops: an optical DVD drive. But a person can watch movies on an Acer Aspire One without this component by visiting movie sites like Hulu or by purchasing videos from iTunes. These methods do not solve the issue of watching movies already purchased on DVD, however.

You could rip those movies into a smaller file and transfer them to your Acer Aspire One using a network connection or USB flash drive, but ripping movies for personal use is not only a legal gray area, but time consuming as well. As a result, the best way to watch DVD movies on an Acer Aspire One is to first install an external DVD drive.

  • Power on your Acer Aspire One netbook.

  • Connect the power and USB cables to the back of the external DVD drive.

  • Plug the external DVD drive into an available electrical outlet.

  • Connect the external DVD drive to the Acer Aspire One using the other end of the USB cable.

  • Power on the external DVD drive. Windows will acknowledge the external DVD drive and install drivers as necessary. Restart your computer if Windows requests it.

  • Install any software that came with the external DVD drive by following the instructions that came with the external DVD drive. Restart as needed.

  • Place the video DVD into the external DVD drive. Close the drawer.

  • Start the DVD player software that came with the external DVD drive, and enjoy your movie.
