Windows Defender offers real-time computer monitoring and allows you to easily remove potentially dangerous programs. Windows Defender upgrades its spyware definition list via regular Windows updates. You can start Windows Defender and perform your computer’s scan using Windows Control Panel.
Log on to an administrator-type user account in Windows Vista.
Click the Windows "Start" button and open "Control Panel."
Choose "Security" and click "Windows Defender."
Click "Scan" in the Windows Defender window to scan your computer.
