How to Make the Header Smaller in Word 2007

One of the many customization options in Microsoft Word 2007 involves changing the size of the header. The header is the text at the top of the page, separate from the body of the text. Changing the header allows you to alter the first thing readers see about the document, and once you know how to access the header for altering in Microsoft Word 2007, you can customize it any way you like.

  • Open Microsoft Word 2007's "View" menu and select "Header and Footer."

  • Use the "Show Previous" and "Show Next" buttons to navigate to the header you wish to change the size of.

  • Use the text palette to change the font size. You can also change font and style for the header text. Changing the size of this header will alter all headers in the document, unless sections of the document contain different header content. You can change the size and content of these headers by navigating to them with Microsoft Word 2007's "Show Previous" and "Show Next" buttons.
