How to Upgrade to XBox Live Gold Member

Save

Microsoft's Xbox Live is a large online gaming community, with over 17-million registered users as of 2008, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Nearly 60 percent of Xbox Live members hold Gold memberships, which requires a subscription.

The basic Xbox Live membership (Silver) is fine, allowing users to download games from the Xbox Marketplace. But to access more features and engage in online play with other users, you want to upgrade to the Gold membership.

Things You'll Need

  • Credit/debit card
  • Access your Xbox Dashboard. You can access the dashboard through the Main menu, or by pressing the silver "Guide" button in the center of your controller.

  • Select (using your D-pad) "Manage Account," and then browse to "Memberships."

  • Select your existing membership, or choose "Add Membership." If selecting your existing membership, select "Modify."

  • Choose your membership plan. You can purchase an Xbox Live Gold membership on a monthly, quarterly, or annual plan.

  • Enter your payment information. You'll need a valid credit or debit card to become a Gold member.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a prepaid coupon or gift card, select "Redeem Code," and then enter the card or coupon number.
  • You can also upgrade your membership on your computer. Visit www.Xbox.com and sign into your account (using your Xbox Live user name and password.) Click on "Manage Account" and choose "Modify Membership."
