Instructions

    • 1

Chew minty, sugar-free gum. Chewing gum stimulates the flow of saliva in your mouth. Saliva rinses your mouth and helps wash away germs and food particles. Look for sugar-free gum sweetened with xylitol, which prevents replication of bacteria in your mouth.

Sip water throughout the day. Water keeps your mouth moist and helps keep bacteria at a minimum. It also promotes saliva flow, which naturally rinses your mouth.

    • 3

Avoid coffee, tea, alcohol and sodas. They'll dry your mouth, making it more prone to bacteria.

    • 4

Increase your fiber intake or take a fiber supplement. Fiber promotes digestive health and prevents constipation. Bad digestion and constipation can trigger bad breath, because the food trapped in your intestines may give off foul gas.

    • 5

Avoid foods that can cause bad breath. Stay away from onions, garlic, strong cheeses, tuna and large servings of meat. Observe your body's reaction after drinking milk; if you're lactose intolerant, it may trigger bad breath. Avoid low-carb, high-protein diets, because they're known to cause halitosis.

    • 6

Dip parsley sprigs in vinegar. Chew on the sprigs and swallow them to freshen your breath. Swallowing the sprigs will keep your breath fresh all through the day. Parsley contains chlorophyll, which has a deodorizing effect. Use mint leaves as an alternative.

Take 50 mg of vitamin B3 and 50 mg of vitamin B6 on a daily basis, together with a B-complex tablet, to ward off bad breath. A lack of B vitamins can bring on bad breath.

  • Don't heat the water so hot that you burn your mouth and tongue when consuming
