How to Convert US to Japan Using a Plug Adapter

Whether you're traveling to Japan or want to use your own electronics while living there, you have to be careful to convert U.S. electronic devices to Japanese outlets. Fortunately, the voltage output between the two countries is similar, so you won't need a voltage converter, but you may need to convert U.S. to Japan using a plug adapter.

Instructions

1. Look at the type of plug that you have on the device you want to convert. If your plug is two-pronged, with both prongs the same size, you won't need a U.S.-Japanese electrical converter. If it's three-pronged or has one prong slightly larger than the other, you will need a converter.

2. Purchase the right converter. The converter will be small, about the same size as your original plug. Be sure that the converter you purchase matches your plug.

3. Put your plug into the converter.

4. Plug the converter into the wall.

5. Foreign power adapter plugs can be purchased at electronic stores such as Radio Shack.
