How to Hook Up a Mouse on the Computer

The most common computer mice are the PS/2 mouse and USB mouse. The two types use different ports but achieve the same goal. It is not difficult to connect a mouse to a computer; however, the assortment of ports on your computer can cause confusion.

      Insert any software that came with the mouse to install necessary drivers. New Windows operating systems will automatically recognize and install the appropriate drivers for the mouse.

      Place the mouse on your desk in the desired location.

      Wrap the cord of the mouse around to the back of the computer.

      Place the USB adapter in any open USB slot of the computer for a wired or wireless USB mouse. If it is a PS/2 wire, which has a colored end with multiple prongs inside, find the matching color port to the mouse and plug it in. Typically, there will be a small picture of a computer mouse next to the correct port and the color of the port will be green.
