How to Fix Edible Pictures on Cakes

Fix an edible picture printed on the surface of a cake to restore its look before celebrating a special occasion. Photos printed on cake icing can crack and separate in transit from the bakery. A cake that is frosted before it fully cools and settles will have an uneven surface, which tends to pull the printed picture in many directions, making it spread and look broken. Freshly made moist cakes are especially susceptible to this type of damage.

Things You'll Need

• Piping bag
• Icing

Instructions

1. Wash and dry your hands completely before you get started on the repair.

2. Press the cracked sections of the picture back together with dry fingertips.

3. Place the cake in the refrigerator and allow it to rest for about an hour.

4. Fill a piping bag with icing and remove the cake from the refrigerator.

5. Pipe the icing around the edges of the edible picture to hide the bordering lines of the photo. Add a message or design with icing to any part of the photo that still appears damaged.

Tips & Warnings

• Smaller edible pictures tend to fare better in storage and travel. Ask your bakery to apply several smaller images instead of one large picture.
