      Brainstorm out your ideas for your travel brochure. Remember to take into account the age of the students for whom you are designing the brochure. For instance, for younger children you might want to include more pictures or other graphics while for older students more detailed description is more appropriate. Use a sketchbook and colored pencils to flesh out your ideas on paper. Gather photos you might want to use in your brochures design. Remember to use only photos, text or other graphics that are in the public domain.

      Choose a graphics program that fits you skill level to design your travel brochure. If you are familiar with a particular program then it is best to work within this program to create you brochure. On the other hand, if you are not familiar with graphic design and opt not to hire a graphic artist to create your brochure, it is best to select a program that is user friendly. Also, select a program within your budget, if you intend to purchase a graphics program. There are several programs on various ends of the spectrum to choose from. Photoshop, while a highly useful program can be outside the reach of many. A good alternative is the freeware program GIMP. If you have access to Microsoft Office, you can use the Paint program that comes with this package is another excellent option to create a basic brochure.

      Open "File" then go down to "New" and select it. Choose a background, dimensions for your brochure and the resolution setting you require. A resolution setting of 300 is preferable for printing high quality images.

      Bring in photos and other graphics to the graphics program you've selected. You can bring in you photos or graphics directly from your digital camera and save them to a file or you can locate images or graphics, like clip art, copy and save it again to a file, then you simply need to open your image in the program. For example, if you are taking your class on a field trip through Manhattan, you will likely want to bring in photos of various attractions you intend to visit on your trip. Each element you bring in to incorporate into your over brochures design will be saved to a layer. You then need to save all other elements you create within the program to a layer of its own to make editing more efficient as you work. Use filters, fonts and the other various setting adjustments within your program to create you design. Save your final design as a high resolution JPEG.

      Print your brochure yourself on your own printer or have it printed by a print shop or office supply chain like Staples or Kinkos that offer this service. If you need a bulk printing, remember to compare pricing options before selecting a printer.
