How to Connect My HP Printer to My Computer With a DSL

DSL is a type of broadband Internet connection that you can utilize with all of the computers across your home network. Connecting your printer to a computer that has a DSL connection through a router allows you to share the printer across the network, enabling everyone in your house to print without physically being at the computer hard-wired to the printer. Setting up this type of system is fairly easy and should take no more than 30 minutes.

Instructions

Connect the router to your DSL modem, plugging the modem into the "Input" jack on the router. This will be the only jack on the back of the router that is not assigned a number, making it easy to find. Connect your main computer (the one to which the printer is attached) to port "1" on the router.

Attach the printer to the main computer through the use of the included USB cable. Windows will immediately detect the presence of the printer and install the appropriate drivers. Reboot your machine to complete the installation.

Navigate to the "Network and Sharing Center" by opening the "Start" menu, then going to the "Control Panel". Scroll down until you see the line for "Printer sharing". Toggle the option to the right of the line to enable printer sharing across the network.
