How to Remove Baluster
Stair balusters are used as a support system for the stair hand railing. Balusters also function as a safety precaution for young children to avoid falling through the hand railing and stair thread. Over time, balusters may need to be replaced due to damage, or perhaps you just want an updated new look for your staircase. The process of the removal of balusters takes a few steps and can be accomplished rather quickly. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut the baluster in half using a handsaw or a reciprocating saw. Cut the current baluster in a plain section, so you have the entire design in tact if you need to replace the baluster.
-
2
Gently pull the top half the baluster from the railing. The baluster should slide out rather easily but depending on the amount of glue, may require some force to be exerted while pulling.

3
Twist the bottom half of the cut baluster using a wrench. Balusters are glued into a hole on the staircase, so using a wrench to twist the baluster will break apart the glue and loosen the piece for easy removal.

Repeat these steps for each baluster that needs to be removed on the staircase.
