How to Get the Skunk Smell Out of Concrete

Skunks defend themselves from perceived threats by spraying a foul-smelling substance out of their scent glands. Skunk spray is not easy to remove and if the affected item is disposable, such as clothing, it often makes sense to simply throw it away. Some items, such as concrete, can't be discarded and must be cleaned. Successful removal of skunk smell from concrete should be done as soon as it occurs for the best chance of complete removal. Instructions

    • 1

Place the affected concrete item into a well-ventilated outdoor area. If the item is a concrete floor or wall, open all nearby doors and windows.

    • 2

Mix a solution of 10 parts water to 1 part household bleach in a bucket. Multiple batches of the mixture may be necessary for large concrete surfaces. If the concrete is colored, substitute a strong-scented pine cleaner in place of the bleach.

    • 3

Pour the solution over the concrete and allow to sit for five minutes.

    • 4

Attach a garden hose sprayer to the end of a garden hose. Attach the garden hose to a water spigot and turn on the water.

    • 5

Point the garden sprayer at a 45 degree angle at the affected concrete area.

    • 6

Spray the concrete for at least five minutes to remove the bleach or pine cleaner solution.

    • 7

Turn the water off and set aside the garden hose.

    • 8

Spray a citrus-scented odor remover onto the affected concrete. Allow the spray to dry.
