How to Set up a Flip Video Camera to MS XP

The Flip video camera comes with built-in software that launches when you plug the camera into your Microsoft Windows XP computer. The program will walk you through some set-up details, at which point you will be able to view and save your Flip videos to your computer for sharing and editing. Unfortunately, certain MS XP programs--including Windows Movie Maker--are not set up to recognize the MP4 video format used by Flip. Those files can easily be converted to the WMV format for use in all of MS Windows XP's native programs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Advanced users may wish to change the frame size, bit rate, audio options and other details when converting Flip videos in a media conversion program. In Any Video Converter, those details can be accessed in the "Profile" menu.

  • Converting Flip video files from the MP4 format to the WMV format will not change or overwrite your existing files. Rather, new files will be created.

  • Keep your original Flip videos in their original MP4 format as a database. The MP4 format is more universal than the WMV format. You might need those files again later.
