How to Customize Hardback Photo Books

Customizing your own hardback photo book is easy, with just a little time and a few clicks of your mouse, thanks to the many photo sharing websites on the Internet.

Choose 25 or more of your favorite digital photos that you'd like to use in your custom photo book. Ensure that they are 300 DPI high resolution images so that they don't appear grainy when the book is actually printed. Put the digital images into a single folder on your computer desktop for easy access.

Visit a website that allows you to create your own custom photobook, such as Photoworks.com. Others, such as snapfish.com, shutterfly.com and the Walmart.com Photo Center will also work. The following steps are specific to Photoworks.com, but if you choose to use a different website the steps will be very similar.

Click on "Log In" to log in to your account or to create a new account following the instructions on the website. Return to the website's homepage once you have logged into your account. Select "Create a New Album" and name your album something specific like "wedding" or "baby's first year." Click on "Upload Photos" to upload the photos you have set aside in a folder on your desktop. Return to the website's homepage.

Hover over the "shop" tab in the upper toolbar and select "Photo Books" under the products list. Click on "hard cover books" from the left-hand menu on the following page. Here, you'll see thumbnails of the options available for hardcover photo books. Choose the photo book you'd like to create. Take the size of the book, the style and the price into consideration when making your choice. Click on the thumbnail of your chosen option.

Read the specific dimensions and information about the book before beginning. Note how many photos the website says you'll definitely need to create this book. Click on "create book" to begin. Select an image from the top of your screen, which will show your album photos, and drag it into the cover image spot. This will be the custom personalized cover of your hardback photo book. Click the arrow to the right of the book to continue to the next page.

Continue dragging and dropping images from your album into the set spaces within the photo book. Upload more images if you need to using the "upload more photos" link at the top of the page. Add captions to your photo book by clicking on the text boxes within the pages. Change the page layout (how many images or text is on each page) by clicking "change page layout" at the bottom of the book.

Take your time and ensure that your book looks how you want it to look before you finish and pay for the book. Make sure that there is variation within your book. To create a more professional-looking book, change the layout if there are pages right next to one another with the same amount of photos. Review your book multiple times in preview form to look for any spelling errors and to make sure you didn't duplicate a photo on accident.
