How to Make a Cartoon Flip Book
A cartoon flip book takes a simple cartoon drawing and sets it in motion through basic animation. This type of art dates back long before computers were available to perform animation tasks. You can make you own cartoon flip book by following a few simple steps. Seeing your drawing come to life is a fun reward for conquering this project.

1
Choose a cartoon that you want to draw and animate. Unless you're an experienced artist, try something simple at first, such as a face or stick figure.
-
2
Use a pencil (so you can make corrections later if needed) to draw your subject on the last page of a small notepad or tablet. You'll need at least seven to 10 pages for your book, but you don't want too many pages or you may run out of drawings. You might even try using a sticky note pad. That way you can remove excess pages if necessary.

3
Draw your subject again on the next to the last page, but this time add a little variation. For instance, if your cartoon face was smiling, you might show a slight drop in the corners of the mouth and the eyes closing slightly.
-
4
Continue drawing on each page, adding incremental variations to your subject.
-
5
Flip the pages of your book from back to front to view your animation.
-
6
Edit your book if necessary. You may need to make changes to the drawing. You also may want to add a background, as well as color and texture details.
