How to Make a Crystal Prism Hanger

Crystal prisms sparkle and throw rainbows when the sun touches them as they hang in your home or in your garden. You can make a crystal beaded hanger to enhance the delicate beauty of any crystal prism. Look for crystal beads in an array of sizes and colors at online retailers and your local craft store. You can purchase crystal prisms from online wedding suppliers and from certain rock and mineral retailers.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the slit in the jump ring with your round nose pliers. Separate the jump ring only enough so that you can fit the opening through the top drilled hole in the crystal prism. Slide one side of the jump ring through the prism opening and close the jump ring. You could make a beaded hanger for your crystal prism without adding a jump ring, but the ring allows the prism to dangle more freely than it would with monofilament line threaded straight through the prism.

    • 2

Measure a length of soft monofilament line twice as long as the desired length of your crystal prism hanger. Add 6 inches and cut the line from the spool. Soft monofilament is not the same as the fishing line monofilament. Soft monofilament knots easily and is often used in beading projects to make beaded strands for jewelry.

    • 3

Thread the soft monofilament line through the jump ring. Bring the ends of the line together.

    • 4

Thread crystal beads over both strands of monofilament line to the jump ring. You can fill the line with crystal beads, or vary your design by making knots along the length of the line that will stop a bead. When you hang a partially beaded strand, the knots will not be visible. A simple overhand knot works as well as any other.

    • 5

Finish beading your strand as you like, leaving 3 inches open at the end. Knot the lines together at the top of the last bead.

    • 6

Make a loop in the top of your beaded strand by tying a triple overhand knot at the end of the monofilament line.

    • 7

Add a drop of jeweler's glue to each knot in your crystal hanger. Let the glue dry before you hang the crystal prism.
