1
Measure your fireplace. Most faux stone is sold and priced by the square foot, so you will need to know how many square feet you desire in order to get a proper rate quote.

2
Go online, or get your phone book, and search for local building supply companies. Call these companies and get information regarding which brands of faux rock they carry, and make sure they know that you are planning to put them on your fireplace, because not all faux rock is designed to withstand high temperatures. Call as many as you can, and compile a list of brands carried, as well as the price per square foot for each.

Find as much information as you can about each brand. Looking online for comparisons of different brands, or feedback from people who have bought a particular brand is very helpful in the decision-making process. Once you have determined which brand you feel most attracted to on the whole, you can then go to the building supply company that carries that particular brand and see the rocks in person.
