How to Make Custom Teddy Bears
Teddy bears are arguably one of America's best-loved toys, and it's no secret many people own at least one in their lifetime. Why not make your next present to a little one--or to your own child--a custom teddy bear you designed? It's likely to be treasured and may even become a family heirloom to be passed down through generations. All you need is a teddy bear pattern--easily found free online--and a few decorating supplies.

Find a teddy bear pattern online free (see Resources), or purchase one from a crafts or sewing supplies store.

Pin the pattern to your fabric with sewing pins. Cut out the pattern with scissors, following the directions. Sew together your teddy bear with needle and thread. Stuff it with soft fiberfill.

Sketch out your designs and inspirations for customizing your bear. Try unique buttons for the eyes or a ribbon or tie to go around the neck.

Match the season by outfitting your bear in a festive Fourth of July outfit, Halloween costume, Easter bonnet or other seasonal costume. Bear outfits, such as sweaters and vests, can be found at hobby or crafts stores, or you can sew them by hand.
