How to Clean Hot Chocolate From a Carpet

Hot chocolate spills need to be cleaned as soon as possible to prevent the liquid from soaking into the carpet and creating a stain which may be difficult or impossible to remove. If you do treat the stain while it is still fresh, soapy water should be enough to remove the discoloration. Stubborn, set-in hot chocolate stains may be removed with ammonia, which is available in most grocery stores in the cleaning supply aisle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Make soapy water by stirring 1 tbsp. of dish soap into 2 cups of warm water. You do not need to create suds in the water.

    • 2

Dip a dish rag into the soapy water and gently blot the stain with the damp rag until all of the hot chocolate has been absorbed.

    • 3

Wring out the rag as necessary and continue to blot the stain with the soapy water until the stain has been removed.

    • 4

Apply clean, cold water to the carpet with a sponge to remove any soap residue.

    • 5

Blot the carpet with a clean dry cloth to dry the carpet.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the soapy water is not strong enough to remove the stain, mix 1 tbsp. of ammonia with 2 cups of warm water and repeat the steps using the ammonia mixture instead of the soapy water.
