How to Clean Up Water Marks on Brick Pavers

Jaimie Zinski

Hard water from garden hoses and sprinklers creates unsightly water stains on brick pavers. There are several products, including tri-sodium phosphate, available at hardware and home improvement stores, to remove the stains, but these are potentially dangerous to you and your lawn.

Seal brick pavers to prevent water marks.

Create a homemade, safe mixture to remove the water stains with white vinegar. The vinegar’s naturally acidic nature gently cleans the stains without harming nearby vegetation or your skin.

  1. Remove any loose dirt or debris from the brick pavers with a push broom. Brush the dirt into the surrounding vegetation or throw it into an outdoor trash can.

  2. Mix 2 cups water and 2 cups white vinegar in a bucket. Stir the ingredients and add 1 tablespoon mild dish soap.

  3. Stir the ingredients well before pouring them into the reservoir of a plastic garden hose sprayer attachment.

  4. Attach the sprayer to a garden hose and cover the brick pavers with the white vinegar solution. Allow the mixture to remain for 10 minutes.

  5. Work the mixture into any difficult water stains with a plastic scrub brush. Rinse away the vinegar solution with plain water from the garden hose.
