How to Remove the Dashboard of a Car
Many motorists love the idea of customizing their vehicle in any fashion. The process of customizing could include such things as adding a new stereo, or a new dashboard color or design. Luckily, the removal of most automobile dashboards is normally universal in process, though some models may be a little bit tricky compared to others. You may also need to remove your dashboard for maintenance around air vents or changing fuses or wiring. Dashboard removal can be performed easily following a few basic guidelines.

1
Remove any knobs or dials and the stereo or control panel area of your vehicle. Knobs such as temperature A/C control or vent switches should easily pull off. These can be left on, but some vehicle dashboards cannot be removed without first removing these items. Consult your vehicle owner's manual for proper disassembly of your specific stereo system.

2
Remove the air vent covers from the upper dashboard in the center and corners. Typically, there is one or two screws inside the vent holding the dashboard in place. Remove these screws and set them aside.

Locate any screws or bolts securing the dashboard in place. These screws are normally found in areas such as the top of the speedometer area, both sides of the driver's seat over the brake and gas pedals, under the steering wheel or near the fuse box. Screw placement will vary with all models of vehicle; these are general locations for securing screws and bolts.

6
Disconnect any wiring from the dashboard after all screws have been removed. Some wire casings or harnesses are connected to the dashboard, especially in newer model vehicles.
