Read reviews on apartmentratings.com. Founded in 2000, apartmentratings.com services about 30 percent of apartment seekers nationwide. To find the apartment reviews on this site, enter your zip code or state. You will then be able to sort your reviews alphabetically or by recommended percentage.

Access apartmentreviews.net. This site allows renters to interact with one another. To find reviews, click on the map for your state and then choose your city. You can further sort the apartment reviews by zip code.

Head to ratemyapartments.com. This site is mainly geared toward students, but the apartments listed are not necessarily student-only apartments. Apartments are rated by price, quality, landlord, location and social aspects.

Speak with current tenants. Ask if they are satisfied with the apartment amenities and workings. It's important to ask about the responsiveness of the rental management regarding repairs or other concerns you may have.
