Princess Leia has become an iconic figure as the female heroine of the "Star Wars" saga. The Dress

Select what you will use as the main piece of the costume: Princess Leia's white dress. Items that will work effectively for this include a white graduation gown, vintage wedding dress or a white bath robe, with a hood if possible. If the selected piece is hood-less, then you can craft one out of a strip of white fabric.

Cut a large semicircle out of white fabric. The cut piece should be approximately 2 feet across at its longest point, though this could vary depending on the size of the individual. Glue or sew the straight half of the semicircle to the back or the back collar of the dress or gown. When worn, it should fall loosely over the head.

Cinch the waist of the gown with a black or silver belt. The dress should fall loosely and not be very form-fitting. If the gown is not high-collared, wear a white turtle neck under the dress.

Style your own hair if it is long enough or use props to create the famous side-buns. For your own hair, divide the hair into side pigtails and secure with a hair tie. The hair should be clasped directly above the ears. Twist each pigtail and wrap it around itself to create the swirled, cinnamon-bun look. Secure in place with bobby pins and hair spray.

Drape a brown scarf or piece of fabric over the top of your head if your hair is not long enough to style into side buns. Secure the top portion, up to the tops of your ears, to your head with bobby pins. Tie pigtails in the loose sides of the scarf with hair ties, as you would your own hair. Twist and wrap the hanging scarf around itself to create the swirled buns. Secure in place with bobby pins.

Wear black shoes or boots to complete the look. Carry a large, black toy gun as an accessory to the costume.
