How to Craft With Bee Wax

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by bees in their hives. It is used in cosmetics, furniture wax and in candles. There are many things that you can make at home with beeswax, but perhaps the simplest is the rolled candle. Kids can also enjoy this craft with their parents and make pretty gifts. Beeswax can be decorated with glitter to make your candle sparkle. Each candle only takes a few minutes to make. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Beeswax sheets
  • Cotton wicks
  • Scissors
  • Hair dryer
  • Fine glitter

Instructions

    • 1

      Heat the beeswax slightly with the hair dryer. This will keep the wax from cracking. It should be pliable but not melted.

      Cut the cotton wick to be 1 inch longer than the length of the beeswax.

      Place the wick at one edge of the beeswax sheet. Pinch the edge of the wax around the wick.

      Roll the sheet up around the wick. The tighter you roll the sheet, the longer the candle will burn. When you have rolled the sheet to the desired thickness, cut off the excess beeswax.

      Use the dryer around the final candle and gently press glitter into the softened sides.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not leave burning candles unattended. Supervise children and pets around lit candles.
