How to Produce a Faux Wood Grain
The look of wood grain creates a warm and inviting ambiance in any home. Regardless of the type of surface you are trying to cover, you can easily replicate the look of wood grain with just a few supplies and about an hour of your time. The key is a clever gadget called a wood graining rocker, which you apply to wet wood stain to create an illusion of wood grain. The rocker and the other supplies for this project can be purchased from a home improvement store or a paint store. Does this Spark an idea?

Drag the wood graining rocker through the wet gel, working from one end of the project to the other. Rock it slowly back and forth in random intervals to create a natural wood-like effect. Begin at one end and follow through to the other end, creating a continuous stroke.

4
Drag the notched edge of the rocker through the gel to vary the look of the piece. Alternate the drag effect with the rocker effect in alternate rows in the design to create a random look.

5
Drag a clean soft paintbrush through the gel before it dries completely to soften the effect. Allow to dry completely.
