How to Buy a Gentian Violet
Gentian Violets, also known as the Persian Violet, are characterized by small purple, violet, blue, white and yellow flowers. The Gentian species of plant are fairly temperamental, thriving only in tropical and moderate climates. For this reason, they are rarely sold in northern areas with cold winter temperatures. Because these violets are hard to grow, it can be difficult to locate a Gentian Violet. Once located, however, it is important to buy a plant that has been cared for properly. 1
Visit a garden nursery during the spring and summer months. Because they are difficult to care for, Gentians are not usually stocked by general garden centers or home improvement stores. If the nursery does not stock Gentians, they can order the plants.
-
2
Purchase Gentian Violet seeds at an online nursery. Opt to purchase the seeds rather than a plant if the nursery is located far away from the delivery location.

-
3
Look for a Gentian Violet plant in a sunny location. Do not select plants that have been stacked in crates or shelving as they most likely have not received adequate sunlight.
-
4
Choose a Gentian that has a moist top layer of soil. Gentians deteriorate quickly when the soil is allowed to dry out.
-
5
Examine the bottom of the plant pot for roots. If roots are growing out of the bottom, do not buy the Gentian plant. Gentian roots are very sensitive and when damaged even slightly, the plant may die.
