How to Repair a Broken Chain on a Ceiling Fan

      Purchase your replacement cord in a finish that matches your fan. If your have a white or black ceiling fan, any finish will work well. If your ceiling fan is brass-toned, a brass finish cord should be used. If the ceiling fan has a shiny silver tone, then a gray metal chain will work best.

      Turn the ceiling fan off and place the step stool beneath the ceiling fan. You do not want the stool directly under the fan because you may stand up and bump your head.

      Place the new ceiling fan chain onto the broken end of the existing chain with the attaching clip. Slide one bead in the center of the clip and push it through to one side. Repeat for the other bead and connect the two strings of beads in one single line.

      Place a decorative clip at the end of the chain if desired for decor. It will attach with a clasping mechanism, similar to a necklace.
