Instructions

    • 1

Locate unwanted email in your inbox. Be sure not to select advertisements or emails from mailing lists that you signed up for--these are not considered "junk" email.

    • 2

Using the check boxes next to these emails, select each one. When you are finished, look for the "Report Spam" button in your email inbox. This will add these emails to your own personal spam filter. Emails featuring the same or similar phrases and headings will automatically be delivered to the spam folder and, depending on your settings, automatically deleted after a set time.

    • 3

Mark any new unwanted or junk emails entering your inbox immediately so that they are also added to your spam filter. Eventually, few or no junk emails will get through to your inbox.

Tips & Warnings

  • Junk email can be delivered only after your email address is obtained and added to various mailing lists. Some of these emails can be malicious. To avoid receiving junk emails, don't post your email address in forums and on message boards, or set up both private and public email addresses to use.

  • Gmail and other email services have various filters you can apply to all incoming mail. If you notice a piece of email that is always slipping past the spam filter, enable a custom filter under the "Settings>Filters" option. From there you can send that email automatically to the trash every time it comes.
