Leather jackets should be handed with care. Leather itself is a heavy, durable material, while the interior lining of the jacket is usually made of a silky layer. Cleaning the lining of the jacket is a simple task, requiring a few minutes of your time and a few inexpensive cleaning ingredients that are most likely already on hand in the home. Cleaning the lining also prevents perspiration and other similar stains from setting into the fabric, which can develop an odor over time.

Step 1

Mix 3 cups of warm water with 1 tsp. of a mild detergent. Laundry detergent designed for use on delicate fabrics such as lingerie will work perfectly. Liquid dish detergent also will work.

Step 2

Turn the jacket inside out, pulling out the sleeves as well. This will allow you to more easily clean the entire lining of the jacket.

Step 3

Dip a cleaning cloth in the solution, then wring out excess water. You want to use a cloth that is damp, not dripping, with soapy water.

Step 4

Wipe the damp cloth over the jacket lining, focusing especially on areas around the wrists, armpits, and collar, where dirt and body oils often accumulate.

Step 5

Wipe the lining once more with a damp cloth soaked in just warm water. This will remove any soapy solution, as well as any residue that has been lifted from the jacket.

Step 6

Allow the lining to air dry completely, then turn the sleeves back out to their originial condition, and hang or wear the jacket as you normally would.
