How to Improve the Audio on a Flip Video
The Flip video camera is a small, portable device roughly the size of an iPod or other MP3 player. The device can easily record audio and video, then once you are done a USB port flips out of the side and is connected to a computer to upload the video. There small microphone built into the Flip camera is not of extremely high quality, and a variety of problems from distortion to extraneous noise and weak signal are possible. A few good audio-conscious habits can help you maximize the sound quality of your Flip videos.

Stay out of the wind when recording in the Flip, if possible. The Flip does not have any sound buffers so when the wind blows across the microphone your video picks up a rustling noise.

Avoid jerkey movements with the camera. This, like the wind, can add rustling to the audio.

Keep your hands and fingers off of the microphone. Due to its placement by the lens it is easy to cover it with your fingers.

Hold the camera tight. Because the microphone is so close to where you hand is any movement with your hand can be recorded by the microphone and show up in the video.

Record with the individual facing you. It is going to be hard to hear when the individual is not facing you and the camera won't pick up the audio. The microphone is not extremely sensitive so move in as closely as possible.
