How to Copy CD Contents Onto Your Hard Drive With Nero
People often need to copy the contents of a CD to a computer's hard drive. Not only does a CD contain binary information representing the data on the disk, but it also contains subchannels and media-descriptor files that are not directly copyable through the operating system. Despite this, you can accurately replicate the contents of a CD onto the hard drive using a software suite such as Nero to create a disc image.
Instructions
-
-
1
Insert the CD you wish to copy to your computer's optical drive.
-
2
Launch the Nero software suite.
-
-
3
Select the "Create ISO or Image" button located in Nero's application window.
-
4
Select the optical drive from the dialog box that contains the CD you wish to copy, and press the "OK."
-
5
Select the image type to be created from the pull-down menu located under the "Config" heading. The default image type is a proprietary type that is used almost exclusively by the Nero software suite. If you would like greater cross-platform compatibility, select the "ISO" option.
-
6
Click "Finish" located in the lower right corner of the program window to begin the CD copying procedure. This will create an image file that is a bit-by-bit replication of the CD's data in formatted structure. This file may be opened by Nero or another CD image utility for manipulation or use at any other time.
