How to Use UTEE With Bottle Caps
UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) is a dimensional embossing powder that, when heated, thickens and creates a glasslike, dimensional effect. You can use UTEE embossing powder in a number of craft projects from scrapbooking to jewelry making. When using UTEE with bottle caps, you will normally want to highlight a photograph placed inside the bottle cap or other type of miniature embellishments. Bottle caps for this project can be recycled from drinking bottles or purchased ready to use from a craft store or scrapbooking outlet.
Things You'll Need
- Bottle cap
- Scissors
- Image or decorative paper
- Glue
- Clear UTEE embossing powder
- Heat gun
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove any plastic lining from your bottle cap if you are recycling caps from bottles. Heat the plastic with your heat gun and peel the plastic from the inside of your cap.
-
2
Trim your image or decorative paper so it will fit nicely within your cap.
-
-
3
Place a bit of glue on the back of your image so the image won't separate from the back of the bottle cap when you fill your bottle cap with UTEE.
-
4
Fill the cap with the UTEE embossing powder. The UTEE will be white and opaque before heating, but will melt to a clear dimensional gloss.
-
5
Heat the UTEE with your heat gun until the UTEE is completely clear. The heat will reduce the UTEE.
-
6
Fill the cap with more UTEE once the previous application of UTEE has cooled.
-
7
Heat the UTEE once again. Allow the bottle cap to cool.
