How to Setup a Password on New Computer

When you buy a new computer, it is wise to secure your user account with a password. That will protect your account against unauthorized users and safeguard your private documents and files. Administrator accounts are especially in need of password protection to keep hackers at bay.

      Click the Windows "Start" button on the lower left corner of your display, then select "Control Panel."

      Scroll down and click "User Accounts."

      Click "Create a Password for Your Account."

      Enter your new password into the first two text boxes. Create a password hint that easily reminds you of your password in case you forget it.

      Click "Create Password."
