How to Make Acrylic Resin Paperweights
Acrylic resin paperweights look like clear balls with items floating weightlessly inside. The process is good for preserving or showcasing keepsakes, collectibles or interesting items. Working with resin isn't difficult, but it does require careful attention to detail because resin is difficult to remove from your skin, clothing or work surface. If you take your time, the end result is a permanent display that you can enjoy for years to come.
Things You'll Need
- Resin mold
- Resin mold release
- Craft resin with catalyst
- Paper cup
- Wooden craft stick
- Gloves
- Trinket or personal item
- Fine grain sandpaper or emery cloth

Cover your work space with newspaper as resin spills are very difficult to clean up.

Prepare your resin according to the package instructions. Put on gloves and use a paper cup and wooden craft stick to combine the resin and catalyst. Set aside.

Coat the inside of your paperweight mold with resin mold release. This product keeps the resin from binding to the mold. Without it, your paperweight will be difficult to remove.

Fill the mold to the halfway point with resin. Allow the resin to set until it's the consistency of jelly. Press the items you'd like to cast into the resin, face down. Press them in far enough to push out any air bubbles.

Fill the mold the rest of the way with resin. Brace the mold so it can safely dry overnight without being disturbed.

Carefully ease the resin paperweight out of the mold. Set it on top of newspaper and examine it for imperfections. Use a fine grain sandpaper or emery cloth to buff out any fingerprints or problem areas. Resin will not be at its hardest for another 48 to 72 hours.
