How to Create Your Own Gift Wrap
Homemade gift wrap saves money and results in a one-of-a-kind design that showcases your creativity. Because you can make as much or little as you need, you will not need to purchase a different roll for every occasion. Simply decorate the amount you need in a theme that matches that particular occasion and save the rest of the paper roll for the next occasion. Inspiration for your homemade wrapping paper comes from many sources including the gift itself, commercial gift wrap, and nature. Your own creativity is the only limit to the designs for this craft project.

1
Cover the work area with newspaper to protect it from paint. Working on the floor allows you to work with a long section of the paper you are using to make your gift wrap.
-
2
Unroll a length of craft paper and cut it off the roll. Move the rest of the roll out of the way so it does not disturb your work. Smooth out the paper if it curls at the ends. A stack of books works well to hold it flat.

Decide on the design for your homemade wrapping paper. Decide which stamps you will use and how you will arrange them on the paper. Craft stores sell a variety of rubber stamp options to fit various holidays and gift-giving occasions. You can also paint your own designs without stamps or create an abstract splatter paint design.
-
4
Pour the paint onto a paper plate, spreading it out so you can easily dip the stamps into it. Dip the stamp so its surface is completely covered in paint. Do a test stamp on a piece of scrap paper to remove any excess paint.
-
5
Press the stamp firmly onto the paper to create your gift wrap design. Dip the stamp back in the paint as needed, removing excess paint before going back to the paper.
-
6
Allow paint to dry completely before moving the paper. When the paint is dry, wrap the gift as you would with commercial wrapping paper.

Tips & Warnings
Choose either brown craft paper or a roll of plain white paper to use as your gift wrap material.
For a green option, use large scraps of plain paper for your gifts. Some packages ship with pieces of brown paper as cushion. The crinkle from being in the package adds character to the gift wrap.
You can make your own stamps by cutting a potato in half and cutting the desired shape into the potato.
