Tips & Warnings
Punch small holes about a centimeter apart from the inside of the pumpkin with a screwdriver. When completed, your holes should form a design, such as a face or spooky ghost. Grab your string of small Christmas lights, and slowly push one through each hole of your design.
You can also use pumpkins and lights to decorate for other holidays, such as Christmas. Try painting your carved pumpkin white and stringing white lights around it, or play around with different Christmas colors and designs.
Create a bright and bloody effect by using a strand of red Christmas lights to mimic the look of blood. Carve a scary face, then string your lights through the top and out the mouth for a truly gory effect.
Cut a hole at the back of your pumpkin, instead of at the top, and remove the guts. Then, using the hole-punching method, punch holes throughout the top of the pumpkin, and push lights through to give your pumpkin some bright and colorful hair.
Small Christmas lights are safest to use, because they aren't high-wattage and have low risk of fire hazard.
